Spring and Lifecycles

Intent:Understanding the world around us by exploring the lifecycles of plant, insect and animal life. To be aware of and understand the stages in development and growth. Experience the real life timeframe of lifecycles. Finding out about seasons and how we can observe seasonal change. To be aware of differences between seasons. To know what we wear in Spring and the weather we may experience.

Implementation:

Using pictures, videos, songs and stories of new life beginning and spring time to prompt discussion. Seeking and observing plants and insects outside. To observe the features and changes during the lifecycle by growing from seeds and beans. Creative activities to embed learning and understanding. Outdoor activities utilising the breadth of Spring natural resources available.
Impact: Know the correct order of the various developmental stages. Understand that all living things have a lifecycle. Identify differences and similarities between each developmental stage. Know that we have four seasons and each is different and what we might observe in the natural world during Spring. Understand the meaning of size and those associated with lifecycles. Develop greater independence in life skills and dressing appropriately.
