OUR THEMES THIS HALF TERM
Bears on Dry Land

Winter, Polar Regions and the cold

Intent:
Learn about the ice age, change in climate and weather.
Explore opposites, including light and dark; and hot and cold. 
Find out about people and animals that live in polar regions.
Finding out about seasons and how we can observe seasonal change.
To be aware of differences between seasons.
To know what we wear in Winter and the weather we may experience.

Implementation:

Using pictures, videos, songs and stories of Winter to prompt discussion. 
Creating and playing with a cold themed small world.
Identifying and understanding the clothing worn through dress up and role play.
Creative activities to embed learning and understanding.
Outdoor activities utilising the breadth of Winter natural resources available. 
Impact: Know that we have four seasons and each is different and what we might observe in the natural world during Winter.
Understand the meaning of opposite and those associated with the cold.
Greater understanding of ice age, climate and the weather.
Develop greater independence in life skills and dressing appropriately.

LETTERS, COLOURS,FESTIVALS AND CELEBRATIONS
Please can you help support your child by bringing in items beginning with the same sound of the week and/or of the same colour of the week.  The children will have the opportunity to share and discuss the items they have 'discovered' with you at home during group times with their friends. e.g For sounds of a tractor 't' or an apple for 'a'.  
Please don't forget to label them with your name.
